 Derailed Drivel: Ornithological Gawkers

I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers here, but can you believe these ornithological gawkers think bikers are a problem? A little bird told me we've committed the cardinal sin of disrupting their good time. But take a bird's-eye view of park users, and I see no pecking order worth enforcing. We can all share the trails.

With a busy highway just a quarter mile away as the crow flies, I doubt the sound of a passing bicycle is scaring the birds away. It's hard to cry fowl over an approaching biker you didn't see because your eyes were up in the trees. I can assure you the biker's eyes are locked on the trail. And stopping in the middle of that trail to put another feather in your cap, blocking other users, flies in the face of reason.

We don't want to be robin you of a good bird sighting. Maybe they're just looking for something to crow about. I've even tried taking birdwatchers under my wing, but despite raven about our rides together, they keep flying back to their peeps. I guess birds of a feather really do flock together.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy seeing a red-winged blackbird, a family of finches, or a nice pair of tits, but it doesn't get my heart racing like biking does.

Some might say… it's for the birds.
